Peggi Kroll-Roberts “I love to paint”

Peggi Kroll-Roberts has a remarkable ability to capture the beauty of everyday moments through her paintings. Whether it’s still lifes, landscapes, European scenes, animals, or figurative works, she’s drawn to the way shapes of color interact and the contrast between them. Imagine a bright beach scene where children play in the sunshine, while deep shadows ripple across the water, or a vivid slab of butter sitting boldly on a red plate in a still life—her work is all about these striking juxtapositions. Peggi once said, “I love to paint kids in their everyday lives. I like to paint pauses.”

Her artistic journey began with training at Arizona State University and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. After working as an illustrator, she transitioned to fine art, where she truly found her voice. Now, Peggi lives with her husband, artist Ray Roberts, on a small ranch nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains in Calaveras county. Their home is alive with horses, chickens, cats, and dogs, and Peggi’s studio—a converted storage building warmed by a wood stove—serves as the creative heart of it all.

Most of Peggi’s work is painted from life, though she occasionally uses photographs to enhance her plein air paintings. Her art celebrates the ordinary, finding extraordinary beauty in the simple, unspoken pauses of life.
